Pre Cruise Day 1-1/2 Cincinnati to London to Cheltenham “Let’s play ‘Where’s Rob?’” or “Has Anyone Seen a Teal and Grey Neck Pillow?”

I will try very had to keep the post up on this trip. I need to go back and get the rest of my post put on here and to figure out a way to keep them in order. We have a late night flight so for the entire day we are kind of in limbo. I do take Rob to a doctor’s appointment and I get some watering done. I had all of my packing done with the exception of pulling out two tops and putting another in. We have finished off the leftovers, milk and fresh fruit and have some time to kill. I am tempted to go downstairs to weave but I know that I would get carried away so I hang around upstairs. Our Lyft driver is right on time and a great guy. We enjoy talking to him on the ride. He lives in Lebanon so he is not that far from us and keeps offering to drive us anytime, it would have helped if he had given us his card. We check in at the airport. We are flying British Airways for the first time. They now have a non-stop from Cincinnati to London Heathrow which is very appealing. We approach the...

Japan/TransPacific Cruise Day 2 Omaezaki, Japan “The Required Cat Photo” or “Mount Fuji is there Somewhere”

We have docked. We head up for our morning latte. With the drink package we get free, OK, not really free we paid for it, lattes every day. I have put address labels on the bottom of our mugs so in case we leave them somewhere they can get back to us. I also put on different labels so that we can tell ours apart. Mine does have a dent on the bottom from hitting a pool deck but we need to tell them apart. I certainly do not want any coffee taste getting into my chai latte. We are going to work out before we get our lattes. It is important to keep our conditioning up and you do have to burn off those extra calories. It is fairly crowded in there but we each get a bike and settle in. There is a yoga class going on. The guy teaching it has a German accent. I am used to people teaching yoga having a soft soothing voice. Imagine yoga being taught by Arnold. Yeah, that is what it sounds like. We get our lattes and back to the cabin. We do not have an excursion here but there are three place...

Japan/TransPacific Cruise Day 1 Embarkation Tokyo to Yokohama “Herding Cats” or “How Many Suitcases can Twenty-four People Have?”

I finally got a good night’s sleep. I woke up and thought that it had to be at least 8:00 am, it was 6:20. Nice to finally sleep well. I was not that hungry at breakfast but I knew that we were going to be going on the ship and I would get lunch there. In the room we are doing the last minute looking for items. I have moved everything to one end of the room and now we just have to stuff it all into suitcases and we are set. We have time before we need to meet so we have time to play a couple of games of cribbage. We are meet in the lobby at 10:45 for the bus to the cruise terminal. Luckily Seth overheard us talking about this and told us to bring our suitcases down to the sidewalk then wait in the lobby. I made one more trip to the ice machine for our water bottles. This is not easy because the water bottle is too tall to fit under the dispenser. I just cup my hand around it and aim it into the water bottle. Time to head down to the lobby. Oops, I went to the basement instead of the...

Japan/TransPacific Cruise Pre Cruise Day 4 Tokyo “Slurp that Ramen” or “Are Pockets on the Inside still Pockets?”

No, not again. I woke up at 1:30 and then I got back to sleep only to have my phone ring. I am not certain who it was but whoever it was in The Netherlands I did not want to talk to you at 4:00 am. I thought that I had turned the alerts/rings off, but I guess I just turned it down. Oh great, I am now awake for the day. We have been battling with the thermostat in the room and it is too warm. I am almost tempted to sit in the hall for a while to cool off. I am reading my latest book, but my tablet died. But I plugged it in yesterday when we were gone. Oh yeah, when we left we took the room card out of the slot so none of the electricity in the room worked which means that my tablet did not charge. Damn, the book was getting to the end. I want to know what is going to happen. In the dark I find my way to the charging block, find the correct cord and plug in my tablet. Hmm, could I read it while it was charging? Nope, I guess not. OK, fake sleeping some more. We have nothing major plan...

Japan/TransPacific Cruise Day 3 Tokyo “17,861 Steps, Oh My” or “Why is there a Down Escalator but not an Up Escalator?”

I woke up at 2:00 am and could not get back to sleep. I tried all of my tricks. At home I would get up and move around, but there is nowhere to do that here. I read for a while and try to sleep some more, but it is not happening. Rob wakes up and we give up on further sleep around 5:00. I could figure out what time this would be at home but that might be too hard. We have a tour of Tokyo today. I cannot remember if this is a bus tour with some walking or an all walking tour. Come on bus. We head down for breakfast, which is included with our room. I see Martha in the lobby when we are going past. She has just landed and she will be going on the tour with us. I am impressed with her stamina. The breakfast is an interesting mix of Asian and Western food. The scrambled eggs could have used another couple of minutes in the pan. I passed on the miso soup and I really do want to know who eats potato salad for breakfast. It is all good and since we did not eat dinner we are getting hungry....

Japan/TransPacific Cruise Pre Cruise Day 2 Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean “How Far can We Make the Foreigners Walk?” or “Lost Luggage Lottery”

I know that I get some sleep but not a lot. I spend part of the time watching the flight map. We fly over the Aleutians. Interesting, we will be sailing back through the Aleutians on our way home. We get a snack. It is some kind of sandwich, only mine was still frozen in the middle. Meh, it is food. We are close enough to the Economy Plus section that we can see that they have actual China dishes. I get a Sprite Zero, just in case there is more sleep in my future. I am watching old episodes of “Abbot Elementary.” They are funny and it keeps me occupied. After each episode I try to drift off again, sometimes I succeed, sometimes I do not. It is now time for breakfast, it is 2:00pm Tokyo time and 1:00 am EDT. I hear the flight attendant offering the row ahead of us either noodles or eggs. When he gets to me I said that I wanted noodles. He thanked me for paying attention. When you have a plane this large and you have to keep giving the choices it must get to be tiring. The noodles are ...

Japan/TransPacific Cruise Pre Cruise Day 1 CVG to DFW to HND “Drink the Coke Zero, do NOT Wear the Coke Zero” or “Wow, Andrea can Move Fast if She Really Needs To”

Our Lyft driver is picking us up at 6:40 am. We have a 9:25 flight, an hour to the airport, check bags, get through TSA, get to gate. Yeah, this should work out. We have decided to have the alarm go off at 5:45. I do not know how Rob does it but he has some sort of internal alarm clock and he wakes up at 4:55. How do I know? Because I woke up. Not that I GOT up, I chose to cram in as much more sleep as possible. My stomach has chosen today as a good day to kick up. That’s fine, you won’t be getting many chances to eat anyway. There are always those last minute things to take care of. Since we spent a while out of the house yesterday we had a lot done ahead of time. We moved the luggage out to the driveway then had a discussion about how you have to turn the front porch light off before you lock the door. Come on, it was early in the morning. Our driver is on time and has a minivan. It is nice to not have to ride to the airport with a suitcase on my lap. The driver is nice and we enj...
